本物件は墨田区の下町にある 8 戸の長屋形式の集合住宅である。敷地は、隅田川沿いの墨堤通を一本入った、古い民家や商店、町工場が建ち並ぶ幅 2.5M ほどの道路に面した約 70 坪の旗竿地である。地域に根付くように細分化された道路は、路地としてアスファルトに咲くタンポポの根のように近隣住民の生活環境に深く入り込んでいる。このような都市の構図をもとに、都市と建物、建物と居住空間といった関係性の在り方を考えた。旗竿地の竿状の部分はもともと通路としての要素が強く、本物件に関しても通路としての在り方が問われた。そこで、通路(道路)幅とプライバシーの関係性に着目し、共用通路を路地の延長として建物に深く貫入させる計画とした。つまり、都市における大通りの公共性から、路地の私有性へと徐々に移行する形態を用い、更に前面道路から通路幅を絞ることで敷地内に生活コミュニティーを取り込むことを意図したのである。その結果、幅 2M 高さ 9M の曲線で囲まれた共用通路は、外部に開放しているようで内部に閉じているような曖昧な空間をつくり出している。また、そこから繋がる内部空間は縦方向に展開していく。2 階建てスキップフロア + ロフトの 5 層空間は、土間→ロフト→キッチン→リビング→寝室といったように下から上へとプライバシーを高めていく構成になっており、またそれぞれを分断することなく通路としての幅の広い階段を 介して一体として繋がっている。このように、都市から建物、建物から居住空間といった関わりを『一本の通り』として繋ぎ合わせることを目指した。

CYCLING HOUSE
The project is an eight-row apartment house in the downtown area of ​​Sumida city. The site is contained into a 70 tsubo (traditional unit of land area~3.31m2). It faces a narrow street (2.5m wide), hosting small stores, private houses and backstreet workshops. Further, it is connected to the large Sumizomi road along Sumida river’s bank. The sequence between wide roads to local living areas is driven by subdivided streets, decreasing their width towards local areas. Like dandelions blooming on asphalt in a scattered way, the road becomes street, alley, passage, rooted in the heart of the neighborhood and embedded in the everyday life of the habitants.
Based on such an urban layout, we thought about the relationship between city and building, building and living space. The flagged-shape of the site was the opportunity to use its rod as a strong component of the project. Thus, we assimilated it to a new road subdivision, extending the alley into the property, prolonging it even deeper in the site, embodying the characteristic of a passage. Leading to the apartment entrances, it creates a gradation from public to private circulation. In addition, this transition is developed vertically within each apartment unit. The height is subdivided into five stages of privacy as: dirt floor → loft → kitchen → living → bedroom, the main floors placed in-between to allow such a distribution. The whole is connected by an opened staircase, to reinforce the relationship between the city, the building and the living space like a “single street”.
